It's something I have got very excited about in my 'mediation journey' blog [check it out if you haven't already], with tdhe idea of choosing a colour to represent or go after a sought aim.
Chromotherapy (colour therapy) outside of meditation, is the knowledge that each colour emits a different frequency and is tailoring colour expose to balance the overall energy of the physical body. This is based off of the idea of the many colours involved in white light. I am sure you all did this experiment in school- when you take a prism of glass and shine a light through it to show a rainbow of 7 colours come out the other side as the components of white light. This is the same thing. In sunlight we 'should' be getting a blend of all 7. Especially nowadays with florescent fake lighting, screens and all else these balance may go more out of line.
Each colour can be linked to physical symptoms such as emotions, carrying systems of the body (veins), muscles and sensory organs. This tradition has potential links to ancient Indian, Chinese and Egyptian healings.
The idea that we can gather an energy, emotion or desire from a colour can sound SO BIZARRE i get it trust me.But think basically for a second. We grow up associating emotions to colours like the norm
red- love, anger, passion
yellow- happiness
blue- sad
green- jealously or wealth
and so on
Colour therapy is continuing with pre-programmed ideas that we as humans have carried in culture for centuries, but with a bit more research.
BUT colours are being associated to many different things. In certain healings- colours are associated to wishes or focuses in meditation with 'candle meanings'. These are different to the ones used in colour therapy, though there may be some overlay. It is therefore essential to differentiate the two.
In meditation, if using a colour as a 'seed' or to draw qualities or emotions from it (such as self love, hope, purity) this needs to be in the minds focus as well. For colour therapy, it is vital that the intended healing is focused upon.
We draw what we seek, we get what we are putting out there.
I came across a quote that really resonated with me. If we are looking for yellow cars, we will find them in abundance. If we are looking for a reason to get mad- they will be there. If we are seeking stress it will show itself in all walks of life.
THEREFORE, if we want healing and love, hope and calm we need to focus on these things and allow them to show themselves even in the darkest of situations.
Placebo or not, trying to prove that these energies emit themselves and alter us is another argument. There have been studies that show the effects of energies and how they alter our cells and atoms and lead to us actually changing our brain wave and bodily functions. What stimulus this is from right now is irrelevant. If you are seeking something- having a focus will only make it clearer. Something simple. Something tangible. If looking at a colour, wearing a colour, burning a colour or however else helps that focus let that radiate throughout your body. Look at what you surround yourself with. Allow the light that is within you to be your world. You are art. You are a multicoloured individual so allow your space to be that. Be bold- be daring. Hang colours up- have bright red posters or cupboards, yellow seats, blue curtains. Create safe spaces of colour for calming, motivation and self love. Creating spaces physically and mentally will allow it to absorb into your every being. Not only that, its beautiful to look at.
